Living on the Edge
Kickstarting our meetings for the year 2018, we decided to go with the theme, "Living on the Edge", because after all, outside your comfort zone is where life begins.
We definitely agree on this and Toastmasters is where people get to constantly continue to push their limits, expanding the so called "edge".
This is evident in the assignment speeches for the night:
Speaker #1: You Wan Xuan
Wan Xuan spoke about the horrors of war in Nagasaki and Hiroshima. She had been to Japan recently and shared the knowledge she gained whilst visiting the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum.
Speaker #2: Bryant Oon
Bryant did his CC10 with the aim of inspiring the audience. He didn't only give a speech, he went above and beyond by singing, something not seen very often in a Toastmasters Meeting.
Speaker #3: Sheryl Lee
Our resident Game of Trones wiki did Assignment 2 from her Advanced Communicator Speaking to Inform Manual on The Wall from the series which intrigued even non fans of the series to start watching it.
Speaker #4: Jac
Jac did Assignment 2 from the Advanced Communicator Interpersonal Communication Manual on negotiating. He gave us some useful tips on how to negotiate to get what we want including a fun demonstration with our President.
At the same time, we were delighted to welcome back Chung Kwang and Rou Xing. Chung Kwang readily took up the challenge to fill in as our Table Topics Master at the last minute. His questions were both thought provoking and fun.
We would also like to thank our guests who took the time to come find out about Toastmasters. We certainly hope to see them again in future meetings.
Finally, a big rousing welcome to Darren and Heyley, our 2 new members who officially signed up!
